CARS – cash for clunkers

2 Aug

Most of you have heard acarsbout the cash for clunkers program. If you have been living in a no-news-for-me-cocoon, the cash for clunkers program, the website for the program is at http://www.cars.gov and the official blurb is as follows

U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today kicked off a buyer incentive program designed to help consumers purchase new fuel efficient vehicles and boost the economy at the same time. The Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS), commonly referred to as Cash for Clunkers, is a new federal program that gives buyers up to $4,500 towards a new, more environmentally-friendly vehicle when they trade-in their old gas guzzling cars or trucks.

This is all well and good. I happen to have a clunker. Its a 93 Jeep Wrangler. So I was all set to go to the dealer to hand the keys to my dear “clunker”. I checked on the official website on what I need to take with me.  There was the usual stuff about your ID etc. But the 3 items that really stood out were

  • Personal state identification – Easy
  • The trade-in vehicle – Duh!
  • The title of the trade-in vehicle -
  • Proof of continuous insurance for the past 12 months
  • Proof of continuous registration for the past 12 months

The first two items are no-brainers. What about the 3 after that? I have an insurance policy that I renew quarterly. As soon as the new quarter starts, I immediately shred the older documents. The same with my car registration. My Jeep’s registration is due every April. So, this April, I shred my previous registration doc.

In the past, this would have meant frantic calls to my insurance company and the DMV. My insurance company is closed over weekends for non-emergency purposes. And DMV… you know how that goes

In Perssimon, I just did a quick search, printed all the documents and I was at the dealer with better things to worry about.  I cant wait for this service to be available to more people.

What would you use Perssimon for? Share your thoughts with us
